End Of Trip Competition!

Just for fun, though I will send a prize out of some sort, perhaps a Cairns T-Shirt or something. Whoever is nearest on the amount of money we spent on Fuel for the trip.

Clues:

We travelled 6100KMs. Average fuel consumption 12.7 Litres per 100KM. Fuel cost between $1.72 and $2.22 along the way. We have not yet counted up our fuel tickets so will be a surprise to us also, will probably count them up over the coming weekend, so get your entries in as comments to this entry before then and the nearest will get .... something. :)

hey guys, well done, very impressed that you did all this based on the strength of some photos and a dream. Well done.

BTW - to give a poor man a fair chance is that $1.72 - $2.22 per litre? I don't know why but I thought Aussies did miles and gallons in the same way we do as in old money so to speak.

Off to read the rest. Glad you all made it safely.

Hi Wicksie, Yes that is per litre - of Diesel :)

Well, in that case it's easy. $1562.49 total cost of fuel (that's with a slight head wind and reduced speed to avoid adding to the official toll of road kill)! ;-)

...and what's more be grateful you are not paying UK price at the moment average is £1.35 per litre! A garage in Exeter yesterday had both unleaded and diesel up at £1.99!

...and they claim not to pocket out of this.

I concur you got off lightly at a mere $2 a litre, its about that for a thimble full nowadays here in good (?) old blighty.

Seriously I need that t-shirt and you could probably save the postage as we will probably see you in a couple of months. We have decided to plump for Gosford just north of Sydney as I have a job sorted out in N.Sydney starting in Sept (unless it all goes t.i.t.s.u.p that is) so my guess is $1530.

Well done Gav for all the driving, but lets face it a sheila driving+6000km of roads is far too risky and simply you wouldn't have got the insurance for it would you ? In fact it should be made illegal !!

Hope you enjoy the new house - we all keen to know what your going to do between now and the 23rd when u move in... you already said your not camping anymore... going native already ?

Get the spare room ready !!

Hi All. We thought it was about time we made a contribution in the form of an entry into your quiz. You'll probably be impressed with this (and quite rightly). O.K. here's what we did. With the map you sent us, we worked out your exact route (including the changes you adopted) and then used Google Earth to find every filling station along the way. We zoomed in close enough to see the names on the forecourt of each one. Then our work really started. We eventually found the e-mail address for every one of them and then sent a picture of you all (including Binga) to each of them asking had they seen you and, if so, could they please check their records to see how much you spent on fuel. We couldn't believe our luck when every one of them replied. Some of them even said things like "Oh yeah, I remember that lot. They're not coming back are they mate?" Eventually, we added up all the amounts and came up with a figure of $1526.16 This figure is scientifically correct and so there is no doubt that we are the winners. If our figure doesn't match yours, don't worry, it just means you're wrong. You may feel this is an awful lot of trouble to go to but WE WANT THAT T-SHIRT

Hi All, thanks everyone for your inspirational and well thought out answers. The trouble everybody is going to for the awesome prize is nothing short of what I would have expected actually.

Just one thing puzzles me, that no-one yet has offered to bribe me with $50.00 in order to guarantee winning the $40.00 T-Shirt, oh well, guess I really will be counting those Fuel Receipts over the weekend.

Good luck everyone, and there is still time to enter if you have not done so, not since Wheel Of Fortune has such a competition been worthy of entering.

:)

Hi folks, glad you finally made it, I admire you for your fortitude and courage, however, don't forget that now you are in tropical areas you can expect even more mossie bites.

I have enjoyed your running commentary on your journey and look forward to news and photo's of your new abode.

With regard to your fuel cost I shall estimate you spent $A1933.90 on the actual journey, but still have $A35 in the ormality is.tank so give the actual purchase figure at $A1968.90c.

Keep us all informed as to your progress before you eventually get back to normality, whatever normality is.

Good luck to you that have the courage of your convictions that so many of us others lack.

Alan

Ok, we have a winner, thanks all who entered.

I am actually amazed at how close the guesses actually were!

The cost was $1570.22 so Wicksie with being a fantastic $7.73 out is the deserved winner.

Well done Wicksie, let me know what size T-Shirt you want and I'll get it organized.

Awww man I forgot to enter which is a shame becuase I had my whole team working on this for the past 4 days and came up with $1570.21

Obviously heads will have to roll after missing that last cent

Anyway I guess I'm going to have to fly out and buy my own T-Shirt now :))

Excellent news, I win a T-shirt and I never wear them! Could it be possible for a Mrs Wicksie to have the prize? The lady is a size 10 but would appreciate a size 12 T-shirt to allow for the extra inchage due to mini-Wicksie #2 being on the way ;-)

Thanks Gav

Congratulations Wicksie, looking forward to seeing the famous tshirt when we next see you.

Thanks for the link, i hope Im not too late for the competition. My guess is 1570.21 but I guess you have to round it down so its 1570.20.

Love Maylee x
